A$AP Rocky Performs in a Cage in Sweden At First Show in Country Since Arrest

A$AP Rocky presented his first performance in Stockholm on December 11 since being released from Swedish jail. The rapper was involved in an international and attention-grabbing trial for a street assault in August. On Wednesday night, Rocky brought an electronic hip hop show at a 16,000-capacity venue, announcing his return to Sweden.

According to Consequence of Sound, after string of Swedish act opening performances, Rocky performed his latest released single “Babushka Boi” on a cage-designed stage. As the chorus sings, “I would like to dedicate to the scar on my face/All the stars of the globe, the world is yours, Scarface,” Rocky shouted out his unapologetic Montana-spirit; meanwhile the prison-metal stage reminded audiences of his time served in the Scandinavian country’s prison. Footage videos from the concert attendees showcased the rapper not only ripped the show on the stage, but also intensified the atmosphere with a mosh pit off the stage, where he shoved and slammed into the crowds.

Rocky’s controversy case dates back months ago when he and his two bodyguards were accused of a street brawl by 19-year-old Swedish man. The man who allegedly harassed A$AP Rocky wasn’t charged; while Rocky was under one-month detention. After lobbying from Kanye West and Kim Kardashian, President of the United States Donald Trump interfered in the case with phone call to the Prime Minister of Sweden, Stefan Löfven, trying to free Rocky. The 31-year-old rapper ended up being charged with assault and found guilty. His Swedish lawyer was reportedly shot in head and chest after the case.

Rocky was planning to perform for inmates at Kronoberg prison, where he was held for a month this summer. However, his request was denied by the Swedish officials for logistical and security concerns. After his visit to a school in a “slum” of the Swedish capital that day, the American rapper decided to invite “whoever from the hood” to his show for free and donate a part of the concert profit to the Swedish Network of Refugee Support Groups non-profit.
