Burger Boogaloo, the Bay Area’s wildest punk and garage rock festival is back for 2020 with a few familiar faces and some new surprises. The festival will take place July 11 and 12 at its usual home in Oakland’s Mosswood Park. Headlining the festival are So-Cal punk proginetors Circle Jerks, riot-grrl pioneers Bikini Kill and the sister lead pop-punk/new-wave band Bleached. The newly reformed and touring Bikini Kill will be playing their first Bay Area show in 25 years, while Circle Jerks will be playing the area for the first time in 10 years.
Also joining the lineup is Flipper, Plastic Bertrand (best known for his late ’70s hit “Ça plane pour moi”), Pansy Division, Alice Bag of The Bags, Carbonas, The Fevers, Panty Raid, The Younger Lovers and Midnite Snaxx. Hosting the festival once again is none other than John Waters, who adds just a little more quirk to this already idiosyncratic music festival.
Tickets for the festival are available now, with a one-time only holiday sale being offered with day one tickets for $79 and day two tickets for $59, weekend pass for $109, VIP weekend pass for $159. You can find tickets for the festival at eventbrite.
Back in January, Bikini Kill announced their first full-band shows in 20 years, which eventually turned into a full-fledged tour, including an appearance at Chicago’s Riot Fest. Their slot at Burger Boogaloo is a part of their 2020 tour dates.
Bleached, which features the Clavin sisters of LA DIY punks Mika Miko, recently released their third LP Don’t You Think You’ve Had Enough. The new album sees the girls taking on a more pop-oriented sound, incorporating elements of new wave and pop into their straight-ahead guitar-driven sound.
