Alex Ebert, the frontman behind the groups Ima Robot and Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros as announced a new album entitled I vs I, which will be released on January 31st via Community Music & AWAL. This latest album announcement is accompanied by a music video for the single “Stronger.”
“Stonger,” was directed by Noaz Deshe and was shot inside and outside an apartment complex in Berlin, Germany, and shows a male and female who is implied to be pregnant dancing and navigating around the complex. A transparent floating ball is shown flying around the complex, hovering above the swimming pool and later the sea.
Instrumentally the track blends in many elements of pop with a soothing piano lined, complimented by Ebert’s smooth vocal delivery which hits a high register. A variety of claps and choir vocals compliment the backing instrumentals, as it delves into elements of jazz and funk during the latter half.
“This album tells the story of a cavalier attitude towards a partner, a break-up, the distress of the break-up, the anger and exploration, the contemplation of death, the coming back into the fold of the party, and the eventual finding of love again,” Ebert explained in a press release. “It describes the past three years of my life. It’s almost a concept album in how linear the story is actually told.”
Ebert released a music video for the track “Gold” earlier this year. The performer dropped a three EP set in support of 5ame Dude back in 2018.
