Ours @ The Teragram Ballroom Sunday December 8th

Not every band gets what they deserve. So often great bands are either left to gather dust on the shelf, or just simply aren’t appreciated during their time. You could toss out the Van Gogh example over and over till it grows hollow but still there will always be a band that gets ignored. Sometimes these bands get ignored because they don’t do things in a traditional way, it’s hard to sell weird music to someone who hasn’t already gone down the rabbit hole. Other times a band just doesn’t have the right backing behind them, it’s difficult to get the right contacts and even more difficult to get them to care about you or your music. Whatever the case was for Ours, they deserved better, and maybe the Teragram Ballroom can give it to them.

Ours is a post-grunge band fronted by singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Jimmy Gnecco. The band has never maintained a consistent lineup, and Gnecco has stated that he felt that having a rotating group of musicians who could play off each other was important. Since forming in 1990 the band has released seven albums, each one receiving greater acclaim and commercial success than the last one.

Ours has also made interesting choices in who they have toured with. Despite being more in the post-grunge genre, they have made a home in lineups of many a post-hardcore band, including excellent artists like Circa Survive and The Dear Hunter.

On December 8th, Ours gets the stage all to themselves, and what a stage it is. The Teragram Ballroom hasn’t put on a bad show for as long as we’ve been there so grab some tickets and jam out with Ours. Who knows, the lineup might be different the next time they come around.
