There is perhaps no city in the United States that struggles with homlessness in quite the same way as Los Angeles. A crushing combination of ever soaring rent prices and an influx of transplants have forced many a resident out of their dwelling place and into the streets. While the idea that anyone should have to live a life on the streets is a tragedy, it’s an especially great tragedy when it happens to young people.
LGBTQ+ youth are among the highest at risk population for homelessness. While the tide is slowly turning, many coming out stories still end with a slamming door instead of a loving embrace. When that higher risk of homelessness is combined with higher rates of assault and multiplied by increased assault and violent crimes perpetrated against the homeless, it makes the situation a nightmare for everyone involved.
Luckily, Cyndi Lauper and a host of fellow artists including Marilyn Manson, Kesha, Brandi Carlisle and Henry Rollins, have teamed up with True Colors United for their ninth annual Home for the Holidays benefit concert.
This concert seeks to highlight the difficulties of LGBTQ+ youth, while raising money that benefits services that help keep young queer people off of the streets and in homes or places of safe haven.
The world is a difficult place for anyone. No one should have to go through it without a support system and a roof over their head. If this issue is important to you or you enjoy any of these artists please purchase a ticket to help support a great cause that can help change the life of someone who may desperately need it.
