The Strokes frontman Julian Casablancas joined up with The Raconteurs last night (November 18) during the band’s show in Mexico City. The band and frontman performed The Strokes classic “Modern Age,” which was released on their debut record Is This It?, which is considered the seminal project of the garage rock revival movement in the 2000s.
Both artists were part of the lineup for Corona Capital, which took place earlier this week from November 16th to November 17th. Corona Capital is Mexico City’s largest music festival, with last year’s lineup featuring Billie Eilish, Interpol, Weezer, Keane, Flume and Franz Ferdinand as headliners.
The Strokes has been making numerous touring appearances across many festivals during the past couple of years, with shows at Tecate P’al Norte, Ohana Festival, and Lollapalooza. The band are set to perform at two separate South American Lollapalooza festivals next year, with scheduled appearances at Lollapalooza Chile and Lollapalooza Brasil.
The Raconteurs live streamed their sold-out three-day run at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, TN earlier this year, which took place from August 29 to August 31. The band recently achieved their first Billboard number one album this year as well, with the release of their third album Help Us Stranger.
“Instrumentally, the album contains everything you could ask for in a Raconteurs record: White’s expressive guitar playing, thundering drums and bass, vocals with attitude and a little bit of oddness sprinkled in,” mxdwn reviewer Arnim Whisler explained. “But as a whole, Help Us Stranger runs into the problem that many albums do: it lacks a standout.”
