The Epicenter music festival has announced their 2020 lineup, featuring two separate Metallica sets, and a headline appearance from Disturbed, at the Rock City Campgrounds at Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord, NC, from May 1st to 3rd. Metallica are set to headline the opening and closing shows on May 1st and May 3rd, while Disturbed are set to headline May 2nd.
Other prominent artists such as Lynyrd Skynyrd , Deftones, Godsmack, Volbeat, Staind, Papa Roach, Van Halen frontman David Lee Roth, Gojira, Chevelle, Cypress Hill, Rancid, Royal Blood, Anthrax and the Dropkick Murphys will be performing at the festival.
Metallica recently announced their intention to headline all five Danny Wimmer Presents music festivals across the United States, with two separate sets taking place at each show. The decision to book them was partially inspired by the band’s reputation as one of the most prolific touring acts in music history.
“Metallica isn’t just another headliner. When Metallica takes the stage, it’s an event. It’s an experience. That’s the same standard we’ve set for every DWP festival – from the first band to the last band, and everything that happens in between. I can’t wait to bring the biggest band in the world to the biggest rock festivals in America,” Danny Wimmer, founder of Danny Wimmer Presents, explained. “Metallica paved this road that we travel. How many artists on the bill at these five festivals first picked up an instrument, or first started a band, because of Metallica?”
The Epicenter festival has had its fair share of issues however. This year’s lineup featured Tool, Foo Fighters and Mastodon, however it was faced with a class action lawsuit following intense traffic, and cancelled sets.
UPDATE (1/13): Epicenter has added a trio of bands to its 2020 lineup. Most notably the festival is adding The Hu, the Mongolian hard-rock/metal band that incorporates elements of traditional music from their homeland. They released a new album, The Gereg in 2019. Also being added is The Black Moods and Atomic Guava.
