Austin Terror Fest Rebrands as Oblivion Access and Announces 2020 Lineup Featuring Swans, Converge and Anna Von Hausswolff

The Austin Terror Fest will be rebranding as Oblivion Access next summer, and has unveiled its inaugural lineup featuring rare appearances from Swans, and Anna Von Hausswolff, along with acts such as  Converge, Despise You and Lil Ugly Mane. This three day festival will take place from June 5-7, across multiple venues located at Red River Cultural District of downtown Austin, Texas.

“Due to the nature of the hostility behind the word Terror, we decided that it would be best to change the name of the festival and be a more welcoming environment for both the audience and performers,” said Dorian Bean, festival co-founder.

Three day passes are currently being sold for $200 on the event’s official Facebook page. Several venues such as the Barracuda, Empire Control Room & Garage and the Mohawk have recently been confirmed to host performances for the upcoming music festival. Austin Terror Fest’s 2019 lineup included appearances from Pig Destroyer, Thou and Full of Hell.

This new festival takes its name after the Lil Ugly Mane 2015 album of the same name. The rapper’s appearance at the fest is a unique one, as the event typically caters to acts that perform extreme music, metal and hardcore musical styles.

This will be Swans first announced live performance since 2017. The band’s frontman Mihael Gira, who is the mastermind behind the Swans project embarked on short solo tour last year, before dissolving the band’s lineup for the next album cycle. Gira is the only consistent member of the band, and uses a rotating cast of band members.

Swans released their latest album Leaving Meaning earlier this year. “Their fourth album, Leaving Meaning, pushes them further along their own direction, while not greatly expanding on the ideas before. Instead, it rolls the emotions of those massive projects that preceded it into a closer, more intimate experiment,” mxdwn reviewer Drew Pitt explained.

UPDATE (1/16): Oblivion Access has announced its full 2020 lineup. Artists included on this announcement are death metal band Carcass, NYC hardcore band Youth of Today, death metal pioneers Autopsy, experimental metal band Daughters, reunited indie-experimental band Duster, long-running experimental hardcore band Converge, singer-songwriter Zola Jesus, A Place to Bury Strangers, Windhand, Vio-Lence, Repulsion, Bastard Noise and Mizmor.
