Dethklok Perform for the First Time in Five Years at Annual Adult Swim Festival

After being announced earlier this year for the Adul Swim Festival, Dethklok made their much-anticipated return to the stage after 5 years this past weekend. According to Consequence of Sound,  original members Brendon Small and drummer Gene Hoglan performed alongside new recruits Nili Brosh and Laura Christine on guitar, and Pete Griffin on bass. The band performed 19-songs, including songs from their popular show Metalocalypse and live debuting songs “Impeach God” and “Comet Song.” Each song was accompanied by clips from its corresponding episode. Check out some of the performance below.

Hoglan discussed the future of Dethklok recently, stating “I always feel good about Dethklok’s future. I’m always the one holding out the hope. I know the network was a bunch of f**kers, and things didn’t end up on the best note, but you never know.”

Small teamed with Ian Scott of Anthrax earlier this year to create music for the pinball game Black Knight: Sword of Rage. In 2017, he then formed another group called the Galaktikon project. Their debut album Become the Storm, released the same year, was described by Haglar as being  “essentially a Dethklok record.”

The Adult Swim Festival included a 2-day variety of music, comedy, and games, with other performances including Jamie XX, Young Thug, Tierra Wack, Freddie Gibbs and Madlib, and an appearance from Hanibal Buress who impersonated MF Doom.
