Singer-songwriter Moses Sumney has announced a new double album entitled græ, which will be released in two parts via Jagjaguwar Records. Part one will be released digitally in February of 2020, while part two, along with the physical album in its entirety, are set to premiere on May 15th.
Sumney has also released a new music video for the track “Virile,” which also serves as his directorial debut. “In a post-human world, the last remaining man is caught between beauty and brutality’s battle to dominate the earth and his body,” Sumney explained regarding the video.
“Virile,” opens up with Sumney in a field, before it transitions into a shot of the performer eclectically dancing inside a meat packing refrigerator, before once again cutting to the field, where the performer is shown to be overtaken by ladybugs. This eclectic experimental R&B track blends elements of rock with pounding drums, guitars and basslines, and mellower string sections, complimented by Sumney’s vocal delivery.
This latest project was the performer’s first record to be written in his latest home of Asheville, North Carolina. Sumney was born in San Bernardino, California, before moving to Los Angeles to attend UCLA, which eventually helped him start his music career.
The new record follows his acclaimed debut album Aromanticism and subsequent EP Black In Deep Red, 2014, the latter of which was released last year. Sumney also collaborated with James Blake on a track featured on Blake’s latest album Assume Form, which also held features from Andree 3000 and Travis Scott.
