Not everything music related has to be a concert, and something that isn’t a concert can be just as impactful. This Friday, November 8th, FKA Twigs is bringing her excellent new record MAGDALENE to shelves everywhere. More specifically she’s bringing herself to Amoeba music for an intimate record signing for what is certain to be one of the years standout projects.
To add some background as to why she would choose this specific location, Amoeba Music is Los Angeles’ foremost record store and quite possibly the foremost record store of the entire United States. Amoeba isn’t one of the many record stores that popped up after the 2000s vinyl boom, nor are they a large corporate store that specialized in other things before shifting over to vinyl. Amoeba music has been an LA institution for almost 30 years – and has served as a beacon propping up an antiquated, but deeply personal approach to music, movies, and fandom.
FKA Twigs then, should be an excellent fit at Amoeba. Her music, which has always existed left of center, perfectly encapsulates the type of record that would be lauded at Amoeba. Her newest record is by far her most personal, and her willingness to open herself up to fans during its release signals far more than your average press event.
Take some time to swing by this Friday and pick up a signed copy – provided there are any left, and take home a piece of what is destined to be one of the best records of the year. If not the entire decade.
