This isn’t a drill – My Chemical Romance is back. The band that sparked a million think pieces and painted even more fingernails black is returning for a once in a lifetime reunion show December 20th at the Shrine Expo hall.
On Halloween night, as everyone was dressed up as demons, an old haunt came creeping down from Instagram. A single post from the brand new MCR Instagram instagram prompted a panic among party-goers, and tickets sold out in a matter of hours. But even still fans are holding out hope that the success of this show inspires additional dates throughout the country.
Luckily for us, Los Angeles got picked so we get to spend a night with out everyone’s favorite all black attire band. It’s difficult to properly state the amount of influence that this band had on music all throughout the 2000’s. Tracks like “Helena” and “Welcome to the Black Parade” are not only fun songs to sing at karaoke, but have actually turned into modern day classics, legitimately on par with tracks like “We Will Rock You” and “Bohemian Rhapsody.”
While the band may have only lasted for a brief moment, their impact will clearly be felt forever. Particularly the impact of front man Gerard Way, who authored the comic book The Umbrella Academy which was recently turned into a television show for Netflix.
There’s a solid argument to be made that this is the biggest concert event in LA all year, and it’s easy to see why. No other event, band, or artist has the same level of clout, anticipation, and pure rockstar status as My Chemical Romance, and those of us who were lucky enough to have grabbed a ticket are sure to see why.
