Snoop Dogg @ The Wiltern 12/5

What true LA experience is complete without Snoop Dogg? In an era of legal weed and hip-hop at the height of its commercial powers, it wouldn’t be right to pass through LA without paying homage (and a little of your hard earned money) to the man who started it all.

Snoop Dogg is an interesting character in all regards. At the outset, he was often regarded as one of the most dangerous living artists, a thought that was backed up by his ongoing murder case. Now Snoop Dogg has had a documentary on Netflix, appeared in many irreverent stoner comedies, and even palled around with Martha Stewart. Bomani Jones put it best on his podcast “The Right Time” when he discussed Snoop Dogg’s latest controversy – a raunchy, explicit performance during the University of Kansas midnight madness rally – saying Snoop Dogg might be the only person to successfully be everyone’s favorite funny man and the most dangerous man in America at two separate points in time.

With this impressive portfolio, Snoop Dogg is no stranger to a major crowd. In fact, The Wiltern, one of the more notable theaters in LA, is at the smaller end of venues that he would play at. Luckily this presents a unique opportunity for those who choose to attend. Though The Wiltern isn’t exactly intimate (it seats about 1850 people) they venue goes a long way to make itself feel smaller than it actually is. So if you’re looking for a chance to catch one of the biggest artists in modern history at something smaller than a festival headlining set – this might be your best chance for a good long while.

Like I said earlier, whatever you’re doing in LA can’t amount to a proper LA experience unless it involves a little Snoop Dogg. Most of the time, that might mean purchasing a pre-roll from one of the companies he invests in, or it could mean cruising through Long Beach blasting “Gin and Juice.” But this time you could be in the presence of the man himself. Plus there’s a good chance he brings enough weed to hotbox the whole Wiltern, if that’s your bag.
