We were hit today with a new Tame Impala single, the song “It Might Be Time.” Following a previous teaser “Borderline,” the new single is the second release from Tame Impala’s fourth studio album, The Slow Rush, which is set to release on February 14th via Interscope.
“It Might Be Time” is another Tame Impala psychedelic juggernaut that keeps the group’s flair for discussing self-awareness and self-growth. The polished single breaks down the theme of changes. In this song, lead vocalist Kevin Parker sings, “I’ve been lost before/So tell me it’s not over/’Cause I finally got somethin’ goin’/And suddenly/All my friends are growin’ up/And movin’ on/I must be missin’ somethin’.” Parker is aware of his reaction to the fast-shifting society around him, but he soon realizes that “it might be time to face it/Nobody knows what you’ve come here for, no/You’re goin’ under/They roll their eyes when you’re at the door.”
Like other Tame Impala songs, the new single is filled with energy ready to trigger adrenaline. “It Might Be Time” shines with a new life understanding from Parker. Parker’s strong emotion, the overblown drums, honeyed falsetto vocals, instant-earworm melodies and iridescent synths become the mind-expanding attacks of the opus. Speaking of the new album, Parker addressed, “a lot of the songs carry this idea of time passing, of seeing your life flash before your eyes, being able to see clearly your life from this point onwards. I’m being swept by this notion of time passing. There’s something really intoxicating about it.” To align with such a message, the album cover, designed by photographer Neil Krug, expresses themes of humanity, and its flashes of brilliance.
The 12-track album was recorded, produced and mixed by Kevin Parker between Los Angeles and his studio in Fremantle, Australia. The Slow Rush is a highly-anticipated follow-up to 2015’s Currents. Tame Impala’s previous return single “Patience” will not be included in the upcoming album. You can pre-order The Slow Rush HERE.
This year, Tame Impala headlined several large-scale music festivals including Coachella, Shaky Knees and Lollapalooza; the band also supported A$AP Rocky’s return stage performance from a stint in a Swedish jail. Check out Krug’s artwork below.
