Misery Loves Co. are back as they have announced their first new album in 19 years. Zero Out is set for a Nov. 29 release date via Black Lodge Records. It will include 10 brand new tracks, which fans can preorder here. It is the band’s fourth full length and follows Your Vision Was Never Mine to Share, released in 2000.
In regards to the new album, the songs will stay true to their sound. “You’ll find pieces of all of rock and metal history on ZERO; from goth to alternative rock, from ambient soundscapes to death metal. As always it’s very industrial, sometimes really heavy but always catchy. You’ll believe it yourself when your hear it on 29th of November 2019.”
The Sweden-based band formed in 1993, with their self-titled debut releasing two years after. The album was listed as one of the 100 greatest metal albums of all time by Kerrang! and Metalhead saying “If someone were to prescribe a formula for how metal should sound in 1995, it could be described in three words- MISERY LOVES CO.”
Following that success, the group went on to become one of the most talked-about metal bands in the 90’s, playing alongside Slayer, Machine Head, Paradise Lost and Deftones on their respective tours. They then released their second album Not like Them in 1997, which album received much critical acclaim and earned them a Sweden Grammi. After announcing their split in 2000, a few months after releasing their third album, the band made their return to the stage at 2016’s edition of Sweden’s Gefle Metal Festival, following U.K.s Bloodstock and Czech Republic’s Brutal Assault Festival.
In 2017, a teaser video was released by the band via YouTube, where Wiren talks about a new single called “Would You?”. In the video, he says that “Misery Loves Co. have been writing new music since 2005 and want to start touring and release more music in the future.” That same year, they also boarded the world’s biggest metal cruise named 70000 Tons Of Metal, sailing over to Labadee, Haiti along with Anthrax, Arch Enemy, Death Angel, and Testament just too name a few. The band then started mostly playing intimate gigs across Europe, including Stockholm, Gothenburg, and Uppsala.
They also recently re-released their debut album in celebration of its 25th anniversary with an unreleased bonus track titled “Release My Hate.” In a Facebook post, the band stated: “Release My Hate” was one of the first songs we ever wrote. It didn’t make it to the album in the first place but still…It does have a certain youthful charm.”
Last year, the band signed a new record deal with Black Lodge Records.“It’s an true honor to start to work with Misery Loves Co; a band that had great influence and shaped the industrial metal scene for so many years”, says Johan Haller (Black Lodge). The band then released their song “Suburban Breakdown,” earlier this year, which serves as the opening track of their upcoming new record.
As noted in their Facebook bio, “Yes, the Swedish industrial pioneers are back.”
