You know what? You’re such a cool kid that I bet you already knew about this show. I mean of course you did, everyone knows what Billie Eilish is doing all the time. She’s generally doing cool shit, because she’s pretty cool. You may not know that the Lakers used to play at The Forum before the Staples Center was created as a new place to house the team, prompting a purchase by the Madison Square Garden group who subsequently renovated the location into a more music focused venue that has since played host to some of the best concerts in Los Angeles, but of course, you know that that is saying something.
Eilish, now fully bloomed into a superstar in the wake of her early 2019 release WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO? is looking to add her own mark onto the Forum. At the age of 17, Eilish has already made an indelible impact in the world of pop music. She’s the first ever artist born after 2000 to score a number one album, which she accomplished with the aforementioned WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO?. On top of that she’s become a style icon in her own right, often appearing and performing in baggy streetwear clothes that have now become an iconic part of her look.
Now, it wouldn’t be out of the question to assume that someone as young as Eilish would lack finesse as a performer, but the general consensus seems to be swinging in the opposite direction. And having seen her perform I concur with the consensus. Onstage, Eilish’s youth is actually an asset rather than an obstacle. Her brand, and style which often blurs the line between pop and horror, co-opting the latter into her own music and appearance at times, is on full display. Her wild ideas are fully backed by a well funded production crew and that can lead to amazing moments. At Coachella Eilish sang from a “levitating” bed, and her visuals comprised of scuttling tarantulas and other monstrosities. Take a look at the video below to get a sense of her unique aesthetic.
Given her success so far there’s no indication that this show will be an outlier in any way. If anything an arena show designed by Eilish and her team at an arena specifically created for music is likely to be one of her better performances, and could be one of the better shows the Forum has seen. Snatch up some tickets before they’re gone, she may be young and fresh on the scene, but her fanbase is rabid and likely to make fast work of every seat and each bit of floorspace in the Forum.
