Experimental metal band Sunn O))) have released a new song entitled “Frost (C)” from their new project Pyroclasts, which will be released on October 25th. This latest release from the Life Metal companion project will be available for pre-order everywhere this Friday, October 4th, however it is currently available on pre-order via Bandcamp and the Sunn store.
Clocking in at nearly eleven minutes “Frost (C)” is a song that is grand in scale, drawing the listener in through various extended sounds and elements. The guitar feedbacks are pushed to the limit, to create a new sonic landscape that takes the listener on a unique journey.
The heavily experimental Pyroclasts, is intended to be listened to alongside their most recent album release Life Metal, and was recorded and mixed by Steve Albini at Electrical Audio on two inch tape July 2018, and mastered by Matt Colton through all analogue AAA process at Metropolis in July 2019. Albini also produced Life Metal, and recorded these sessions on the same tapes as the album, to fully immerse the listener into both of these projects.
Sunn O))) are currently embarking on a widespread world tour, which began in Berlin, and will end up finishing out in London, UK. Fellow Southern Lord bands Big Brave and Papa M, the project of David Pajo of Slint, are currently making stops on these tours with Sunn O))) for certain dates.
Like Life Metal, which is composed entirely of the four tracks “Between Sleipnir’s Breath”, “Troubled Air”, “Aurora” and “Novae,” Pyroclasts is also composed of only four songs. Each track on Life Metal is over 10 minutes however, making it likely that this latest project will also go over an hour like the previous project.
