mxdwn PREMIERE: Negativland Release Jittery Dance Number “Certain Men”

Musical/multimedia collective Negativland is back with a new album called True False, yet another entry into the band’s long and illustrious 40-year career. Today, we’re premiering the latest single from the new album, a stripped-down yet danceable song called “Certain Men.” The song takes on the status quo of the world being run by powerful men who’ll stop at nothing to increase their holdings. Throughout the song, a voice says “Certain men / Always / Get their way” and “Let them / They always have / Always will.”

“Music, like money, is loaned into existence — but the second you try to write a popular tune, someone in your band will always end up sampling Henry Kissinger,” said the band about the new song. “This is a fun, paranoid little dance number circling around the certain pathological desire to control everything, from the economy on up to the shape of the clouds in our sky.”

“Certain Men” is the second single released by Negativland from True False, which is out on October 25. The lead single was “Discernment,” which is a similarly slow-paced track, though it doesn’t quite have the dance groove of “Certain Men.” In addition to the upcoming release of their album in October, the band have a double-album that’s interconnected with True False due out in 2020.
