Swedish melodic death metal band Amon Amarth takes a cinematic approach of epic proportions for their latest music video “Shield Wall” off the band’s eleventh studio album, Berserker. Amon Amarth’s latest musical offering was released this past May on Metal Blade Records. With a keen eye on detail, according to a press release, Amon Amarth’s “…rabble rousing new video chronicles the plight of an enemy ship come to invade a viking village. But, as Johan Hegg’s gutteral growl chants ‘Vikings, Raise The Shield Wall, Hold the Front Line, Fight Till Death‘, the fate of the enemy becomes uncertain.”
“Shield Wall” is a head banger’s wet dream that includes rapid percussive drums and heavy metal chords that chew the scenery. Amon Amarth’s appreciation for pristine historical accuracy in portraying brutal reenactments of battlefield tactics, adds to their knowledge of Viking history. The music video for “Shield Wall” was directed by Phil Wallis and produced by the same production team behind Amon Amarth’s feature-length documentary, 2018’s The Pursuit of Vikings. It is important to note that while collaborating closely “…with noted Viking scholar and battle reenactor Igor Górewicz of the Triglav and Jomsborg vikings, the video was shot on location in Wolin, Poland – site of the world-renowned annual Festival of Slavs and Vikings – and featured extras from the world’s foremost Viking reenactment groups, including Triglav, Maximas von Bracey’s Ulflag and Germany’s Blóðvítnir, longtime friends of Amon Amarth whose longtime member Sana portrays the story’s raiding party commander.”
The current tour roster for Amon Amarth: Johan Hegg (vocals), Johan Söderberg and Olavi Mikkonen (guitar), Ted Lundström (bass) and Jocke Wallgren (drums). Presently Amon Amarth is embarking on a grandiose North American tour with close Swedish musical cohorts: Arch Enemy, At The Gates and Grand Magus. Speaking collectively, Amon Amarth vehemently declares:
“Berserkers! We will lead a Swedish metal invasion of North America this September and October along with our friends Arch Enemy, At The Gates and Grand Magus. Come fight and feast with us and earn your seat in the great golden hall. This raid is pure heavy fucking metal and not to be missed!”
