Picture this, you, a tragic LA hipster, are Birding down the sidewalk. The barely audible shrieks of Deafheaven blasting from your earphones. “I’m so cool” you think to yourself “I can listen to even the most extreme forms of music.” Self-aggrandizing streams of thought whizz through your head like rivers of mercury in the tomb of a Chinese emperor. Lost in that haze you run smack into a wall, or at least you thought it was a wall, until you look up and see him. Like a monolith blotting out the sun, the greasiest, meanest, most badass metalhead looms over you. Before you even stammer out an apology he picks up your iPhone (the latest model of course, who would even be caught dead with a measly TWO cameras these days) and cackles. “You don’t know what trve cvlt metal is.” He spits at you from his blackened perch on high, “Check this out and get a taste of the real deal.” he tosses you a CD – you can’t even remember the last time you saw one of those – and disappears in a cloud of smoke.
Sixteen months later you find a CD player in the ruins of an old Best Buy, you sound out the syllables slowly, as if it were a long dead language “COM Packt disk play-urr – Cee Dee.” You retrieve the archaic technology from the ancient tomb, escaping only a few dollars poorer. After returning home you plug it in, grab some headphones, no not AirPods, the wired ones in the back of your closet and open the CD case. “Babymetal” you say to yourself, “There’s no way this is good.” You pop the CD in and melt like antagonist in Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark.
Anecdotes aside, Babymetal rocks. Do you like Japan? Yes. Do you like metal? Hell yes. Do you like a group that blends J-Pop and Metal into an indecipherable soup of kick ass fury? ABSOLUTELY!!! If you responded correctly to any of the above questions you need to go buy tickets right now. If you didn’t respond correctly to any of the above questions I would like to direct you to exhibit A below.
Okay now that you’ve got the idea, Babymetal is a J-pop Metal fusion group that is known for producing some of the most insane shows known to mankind. You think Cannibal Corpse goes hard? You think a Daughters live show is tough? Think again. Join Babymetal for the wildest night of your life, and never look at music the same way again.
