BAUHAUS the legendary British rock group who created the hit “Bela Lugosi’s Dead” and were instrumental in pioneering goth rock as a genre. The titans of music have reunited for a rare performance, their first reunion since 2008. Given the rarity of such an occurrence, added to the fact that the show is located at the Palladium, one of Hollywood’s greatest venues, make this a can’t miss event.
For those who aren’t well acquainted with either BAUHAUS here’s a short primer. BAUHAUS (named after the famous German design school of the same name) formed in Britain in 1978 and quickly rose to prominence with the song “Bela Lugosi’s Dead” which you can listen to below. The nine minute epic introduced the world to a band that was unyielding from the beginning, and would go on to make similarly dark and uncompromising music in the future.
BAUHAUS would prove to be a short lived band with a decent amount of success, though the true weight of their influence would take years, even decades to unpack into its proper places. Eventually members of the band would form the group Love and Rockets without lead singer Peter Murphy, but reunited in 1998 for a tour, and again from 2005-2008, but they haven’t reunited since.
But why should you care about some old band that hasn’t made a new song since the 80’s. Well first of all how rude of you, and secondly, because there’s a good chance that if you care about punk, indie, goth rock, rock, or really any kind of music that is played with guitars and drums, and even a good deal of music that isn’t played with either of those instruments, BAUHAUS had some influence on that band you like. So stop playing around with the second hand version and come get the original at the Palladium on November 3rd, 4th, and December 1st.
