Phil Elverum, the mastermind behind Mount Eerie has announced a new album Lost Wisdom Pt. 2, which is a sequel to his 2008 collaborative album with Julie Doiron, Lost Wisdom. This new album will be released via P.W. Elverum & Sun on November 8th, and hosts the new single “Love Without Possession.”
“Love Without Possession” is a duet between Doiron and Elverum, and opens up simply with an acoustic guitar, before bringing in more instrumentation such as electric guitars and accordion. Elverum’s signature songwriting is present as he sings :”Rose petals were blustering/and I’m determined still to hold this open door/even now as it devastates/ I wake up gasping in the void again.”
Elverum’s most recent projects saw him dealing with the inner turmoil he suffered after the death of his wife Geneviève Castrée. He explained that this new album will continue on themes of love and turmoil, which has stemmed from the recent breakdown of his relationship with actress Michelle Williams. “It didn’t work out and I had to move again. Finding myself staring into another fire, disoriented by the changes, these songs came out,” Elverum detailed.
“In a grab for deeper continuity, I called and asked Julie Doiron if she could join me in the recording. She has been my favorite singer since 1993 when I first heard her band Eric’s Trip and subsequently devoted my life to music and art,” Elverum explained in a press release. “This 26 year path from teenage obsession to collaborator has made me feel very fortunate. We made another record in 2008 called Lost Wisdom, more flames, more love, more turmoil. Now we get to do some more singing and playing together.”
