Neuland Featuring Former Members of Tangerine Dream Announce Self-Titled New Album for October 2019 Release and Share New Song “Moons Ago”

Electronic group Neuland, featuring former Tangerine Dream members Peter Baumann and Paul Haslinger, have announced their first studio album project, which coincides with the release of their first single “Moons Ago.” The synth-based electronic group will be releasing their self-titled debut album on October 25th.

Baumann was a member of Tangerine Dream during their 1971 to 1977, when they released their best known studio albums Phaedra, Rubycon and Stratosfear. Haslinger was active during the band’s more soundtrack driven era in the late 80s, where they released soundtracks for Miracle Mile, Destination Berlin and Near Dark.

“Moons Ago,” features many unique synth sounds, and blends of ambient and progressive electronic music, which Tangerine Dream helped pioneer during the mid 1970s. This style takes a more dark tone however, with brooding synth lines and percussion that creates many eerie moments throughout the track.

While Neuland was formed relatively recently, both Haslinger and Baumann recorded a few demos together in the late 1980s as Blue Room. While these sessions were ultimately scrapped, they helped create the way for the two to eventually form Neuland.

“Our earliest tracks were studio experiments — compositions in search of a project,” explains Haslinger. “But they were fun to make, so we started playing with conceptual ideas. And like any process of exploration, we covered a lot of different ground to land, eventually, on the mood, selection, and sequence of the album.”

As Baumann describes:

“It all boils down to one word — transcendence,” explains Baumann. “The color blue is a cool, calm color and evokes a deeper, more reflective mood, as opposed to red, which is more exciting and stimulating. There’s plenty of stimulation in our world today, with little room for reflection and deeper experience. Neuland is at home beyond fleeting excitement.”

This new announcement comes on the heels of two new box set releases from Tangerine Dream, one which features recordings from 1973 to 1979, and remastering of seven of their classic albums.
