100 gecs @ La Santa 11/9

100 gecs, one of the most thoroughly bewildering acts in recent memory is taking its madhouse sound on tour to La Santa on 11/9. Those who aren’t up to speed may wonder “Why is this show important?” and “What do these guys even sound like?” To which I’d respond “Please listen to any one of their songs.” This is music that doesn’t wait for you to “get it” it is a wild, unrelenting collage of limitless ambition.

In their most popular track, “Money Machine” off of their latest record 1000 gecs blends together modern trap beats the maddening energy that accompanies the vocal delivery of that genre, with hints of PC music and SOPHiE-esque noise. The track is, honestly kind of overwhelming but it’s this unyielding combination of sonic palettes that makes the music so engaging.

But describing this music can only get you so far. To get a better sense of what a 100 gecs show could even possibly look like one has to take a listen. Some great entry points are the aforementioned “money machine” and “800db cloud”. Hopefully you find the music enrapturing, at the very least, it promises to be like nothing you’ve ever heard. Looking forward to the show, you can practically imagine the venue crumbling to pieces underneath the shuddering weight of the 808’s, ceiling beams splintering under harsh shrieks of static, and wild teens screaming their heads off at the sheer madness.

This is a can’t miss show for anyone interested in the future of music, even if something like 100 gecs never crawls towards the center of the discussion, they’re popular enough on the fringes that they could scramble close enough to well known to make you uncomfortable. So if that’s something that interests you, or you’re more into the memes and listening to the wildest stuff imaginable, you need to be there on November 9th as they (inevitably) disassemble La Santa in front of a screaming crowd.
