Kim Gordon has released a “music video” for her new track “Air Bnb,” a new track featured on her upcoming solo album No Home Record, which will be released via Matador Records next month. The former Sonic Youth frontwoman brings the heavy sound that she helped pioneer during her time with the group into this latest single.
This track blends heavy distorted guitar sounds, with shredding riffs that add to the noisy instrumentals that back Gordon’s grunge-like vocals. Rather than having a visual, Gordon explains how she wanted the music video to be set up through a text narrative, which states that the video was supposed to be set in an Air Bnb in the Hollywood Hills.
Like the album’s title track “Sketch Artist,” this latest visual and single display Gordon’s career since her move to Los Angeles, covering similar themes of decadence, by showing the Hollywood lifestyle. Gordon has explained that Los Angeles has had a huge impact on the direction she decided to go to with her latest solo album project.
“‘Why a solo record? And why now?,’” Gordon mused of the upcoming solo debut in a press release. “I don’t know, but it wouldn’t have happened without the persistence of Justin Raisen. Living in LA the last few years it feels like home, but the transience of the place makes it feel sometimes like no home.”
She also elaborated on these themes in 2016, stating:
“When I moved back to LA I noticed more and more cars painted with black matte spray, tinted windows, blackened logos, and black wheels. A statement-making rejection of the shiny brand new look, the idea of a new start, the promise of power, and the freedom on the open road”
