With Netflix’s original series 13 Reasons Why entering its third season, the soundtrack list is getting more and more star-studded. Earlier this August, Interscope Records announced the project’s release date and tracklist, featuring Charli XCX, Yungblud, Cautious Clay and more. The series’ original score already had the masses buzzing with moody songs like “Who Killed Bryce Walker” by electronic artist Eskmo. Now Charli XCX is leading the series’ soundtrack as she drops her emotional single, “Miss U,” for this week’s episode.
Produced by Lotus IV, known for his work on Zedd’s big hit “Stay” in 2018, “Miss U,” is an electric song full of loss and a sense of vulnerability. The track dives deep into paranoia and mental issues. “Sometimes‚ I miss you when I’m all alone…And even though we both moved on…Sometimes I play your favorite song…I play it on and on…And I, I miss you when I’m all alone,” sings Charli in the lyrics.
It is not certain if “Miss U” is dropping hints for any show plots, but the soundtrack surely does have a meaning related to the show. According to Rolling Stone, the unexpected death of Bryce Walker in the last episode of season 2 clearly impacts the events that unfold in the third season. The season should offer thrills as the synopsis states, “Everyone has their reasons… The secrets at Liberty High run deep, and in the aftermath of the Homecoming game, all of the friends have something to hide. As the mystery of his death engulfs the town, there are numerous suspects in focus.”
Charli XCX recently released “Gone,” featuring Christine and the Queens for her upcoming studio album titled Charli. The song is the third single following Charli’s collaboration with Lizzo in “Blame It on Your Love,” and “1999” with Troye Sivan. Charli will be released on September 13th, while the 2019 national and international fall tour is underway.
Last year, Lord Huron contributed a peaceful ballad for the second season, a new version of “The Night We Met,” featuring Phoebe Bridgers, The two recently made stage performance at the Hollywood Bowl.
