The road to Woodstock 50 hasn’t proved itself as an easy feat in the slightest. After numerous relocations and scandals, producer of Woodstock 50 Michael Lang announced that the festival will be housed at the Merriweather Post Pavilion outside of Baltimore, Maryland. Before the Merriweather Post Pavilion, Woodstock 50 was set to take place at the Watkins Glen International Speedway in upstate New York.
However, due to the turbulent journey of the making of Woodstock 50, it’s unclear which previously announced artists will be okay with the venue change. Given that many artists were contracted to perform at the Watkins Glen International Speedway, it may be difficult for Woodstock 50 to regain some of its previously confirmed performers. Though there is uncertainty, as of now the lineup still includes artists like Jay-Z, Miley Cyrus, and Dead & Co.
Additionally, there has been some speculation that the festival may turn itself into a benefit concert in which proceeds from the ticket sales will be donated to charities. The new Woodstock 50 would be instead called “Woodstock 50 Washington” and would have a range of ticket prices from $129 to $595. The dream for Woodstock 50 began to crumble last April when its financial backers Superfly and Dentsu-Aegis pulled out. A little later on, things took turn for the better when Woodstock 50 found a new backer with the bank Oppenheimer & Co. Though soon after, the new venue Watkins Glen and producer cut ties with the festival as Michael Lang didn’t follow through with payments to the venue.
