Deerhunter with Dirty Projectors @ The Wiltern 7/17

DIRTY PROJECTORS

Brooklyn based Dirty Projectors will play The Wiltern this July in support of Atlanta natives Deerhunter. Formed in 2002, the bands current members David Longstreth (vocals, guitar), Nat Baldwin (bass), Mike Daniel Johnson (drums), Maia Friedman (guitar, keyboards, backing vocals), Felicia Douglass (percussion, keyboards, backing vocals) and Kristin Slipp (keyboards, backing vocals), weave together an eclectic indie, art rock.

Highly collaborative, the band has seen an extensive list of members, who have contributed to and developed the unique and nuanced sounds that the Dirty Projectors have been establishing for almost two decades. Wiry guitar riffs blend into melodies and comprehensive harmonies, while Longstreth curates eccentric stylistic shifts. With eight studio albums, most recently Lamp Lit Prose (2018), which followed the release of three successful singles ‘Break Thru’, That’s a Lifestyle’ and ‘I Feel Energy’ – the music of this tour promises to deliver from a multitude of influences and time-scapes, since their forming in the early 2000s.

Deerhunter will headline, with Bradford Cox (vocals, guitar, keyboards), Moses Archuleta (drums, electronics, sound treatments), Lockett Pundt (guitar, vocals, keyboards), Josh McKay (bass) and Javier Morales (keyboards, synthesizers, alto saxophone). Forming in Atlanta in 2001, they have released seven full-length albums, with this years Why Hasn’t Everything Already Disappeared? (2019) crystallizing the experimental psych, dream pop that they have become known for.

The Wiltern is one of the largest theaters in Los Angeles, built in 1931 it is a mausoleum of Art Deco architecture. Having been extensively refurbished, the acoustics of this venue support all that play within it – with these two bands being no exception.
