The Hammer Museum will host three of KCRW’s Summer Nights this July, Pavo Pavo will headline the first night with DJ sets from Anne Litt and Dan Wilcox. The event will open at 6.30pm with happy hour at the bar and an extension of gallery access until 8.00pm – the current exhibition is an American survey of the British YBA Sarah Lucas, Sarah Lucas: Au Naturel.
The indie-pop band Pavo Pavo hail from Brooklyn, New York; formed in 2015 after Eliza Bagg and Oliver Hill met in a string quartet at Yale University. Bagg (vocals, violin, synthesizers), Hill (vocals, guitar, synthesizers), Ian Romer (vocals, bass) and Noah Hecht (drums) collaborate on a sound that combines classical, experimental and pop music.
Pavo Pavo’s debut album Young Narrator in the Breakers (2016) is a source of etherial exploration, translating an otherworldly landscape into the music they make. Bagg and Hill are classically trained musicians as well as songwriters; channelling their fundamental understanding of music into something alien and unusual with their use of synth and poetic lyrics, which are delivered so hauntingly.
Mystery Hour (2018) offers something different, consciously or subconsciously channelling the emotional energy of the deterioration of Bagg and Hills romantic relationship. The record an existential investigation into the interpersonal, an attempt at defining the undefinable nature of love and the sometimes unavoidable heartbreak that accompanies it.
KCRW DJ’s Anne Litt and Dan Wilcox will play sets before and after Pavo Pavo – the event will be held in the Hammer Museum courtyard.
