Shaman of the psychedelic garage-rock scene, Ty Segall, will take residence at the Teragram Ballroom playing ten dates from July 26 – September 27. He will be joined by Warm Drag 7/26, Richard Rose 8/2, Vice Cooler 8/9, The Intelligence 8/16, Lamps 8/30, Ruth Garbus 9/13 and DMBQ 9/20, 9/27.
His multi-dimensional instrumentals, record production and singer-songwriter talents have taken form through solo and collaborative endeavors. In 2008 Segall released his first self-titled album Ty Segall as an independent artist, following his departure from the Epsilons. Fuzzy, raw energy reverberates through lyrics and song titles that disclose an intensity of feeling and social commentary with crystal clarity.
A native to California, having lived in the Bay Area, Orange County and now residing in LA, Segall is part of a network of closely collaborative musicians. In 2009 he released Reverse Shark Attack, with his long-time friend and previous bandmate of the Epsilons, Mikal Cronin. In 2013 he joined with another member of his backing band, The Freedom Band (which Cronin also plays for) Charles Mootheart, to start a hard-rock project Fuzz.
Since 2008, Segall has worked with and produced music in a variety of outfits – Hair (2012) and Joy (2018) are albums of an ongoing partnership with Tim Presley of White Fence. Part of the lo-fi, 60s influenced psych that started coming out of California in the late 2000s; the music of Segall and his comrades nods to the resistance of the socio-normative and gains speed through fickle musical moods and the reimagining of sonics of previous eras.
This series of shows will coincide with Ty Segall’s new album with The Freedom Band, First Taste, set to be released on August 2 by record label Drag City.
