Helmet are celebrating their 30th year anniversary of making music and they are enjoying it with their fans as they announced they will soon embark on a U.S. anniversary tour. The New York alternative band are gearing up to commence their “30 for 30” tour as they plan to perform 30 shows in 30 cities while performing a 30 song set with no opening or supporting acts. The group will be doing two different commemorative tours, one in North America followed by one in Europe. The North American tour dates came unexpectedly several weeks after the original European tour was announced.
No one within the group arguably is celebrating harder than the band’s founder Page Hamilton, the only member to have stayed with the group since Helmet was first created back in 1989. While reflecting on the band’s beginnings, Hamilton said, “The day John, Peter and I auditioned Henry is the day I consider to be the beginning of HELMET. The year was 1989 and I think the month was May. I love playing this music more than ever with my current bandmates Kyle, Dan and Dave. To celebrate 30 years of recording and touring, we decided to play 30 songs a night in 30 cities in Europe and 30 more cities in the USA. We hope to see you all there.”
Helmet was once on the brink of collapse when members had disbanded in 1997 but became revitalized once again in 2004 when Helmet continued with recording music and touring together. The band has still been together to this day but has not been release a new project since their album Dead to the World had dropped in 2016.
While the band stepped away from the spotlight, it seemed that their influence had not failed to shine harder as their influence stretched across a number of acts from multiple generations and their songs were covered by bands such as Faith No More, Deftones, and Chevelle. Marilyn Manson also cited the band to be one of his major influences throughout his career.
