It appears that the artist known as Bat For Lashes, Natasha Khan, is up to something. In a series of tweets posted in the last few days, she’s teased new music and something else revolving around a missing girl.
The first video was posted on June 3, 2019 and features a man with medium length hair talking into a camera. He says “It’s been about a half an hour now and I have no idea where she is. I’ve been walking around for a while. I mean I don’t really know what to do so… She’s nowhere.” The tweet is captioned “She’s nowhere.”

In the next tweet from June 4, the man identifies himself as Michael and Bat For Lashes identifies herself as Nikki. The two are driving on the 101 south near the 110 junction in Downtown LA, and say that they’re making a little film and that this is their first meeting. The video features the first sample of what could be new music from Bat For Lashes, a simple yet trippy synth line. The two are shown crossing their fingers and whispering “Fingers Crossed” — which is also the caption for this tweet.

The next video is taken at night, at might feature the first shot we see of the missing girl. It’s somewhere in Northeast LA or Pasadena, judging by the telltale blare of the Gold Line LRT train and the whining of metal on metal as it pulls out of a station. It’s probably Highland Park, judging by the hedges and early 20th century residential architecture, not to mention the narrow street with bollards at the center that can be seen in the distance. There’s nothing much to this video clip, just the girl at a street corner.

The next video features Michael speaking into the camera. He says he’s at the airport and about to pick up Nikki. He confesses he is nervous because they’ve been speaking online for so long and that he’s never actually met her in person. This starts to open up some questions about their “project,” considering a previous post shows Michael and Nikki together in a car.

The most recent video, posted today (6/7), features Michael walking around what appears to be Highland Park in Los Angeles, posting flyers for a lost girl. The caption on the tweet asks for anyone who’s seen a lost girl to call 1 213-675-6673, a number that’s in the Downtown LA area code. Calling the number reveals a cryptic message, allowing the caller to enter their phone number to send an SMS message. You’re never allowed to dictate what the message says, nor do you ever receive a follow up SMS after sending out the message. More on this as it develops.
