KCRW, Santa Monica based radio station, is back with Summer Nights and the line-up promises live music and DJ sets all over Los Angeles. On June 15, Cleo Tucker and Harmony Tividad, the yin and yang of Girlpool, will play One Colorado Old Pasadena, with DJ sets by Chris Douridas.
The duo are known for practicing radical openness, which extends from their deeply empathic friendship and synergetic process; saturating the music they create and offering an intimacy that all are welcome to experience. Their melancholic pop sound, is reminiscent of the Pacific North-Western alt movements of the early to mid-90’s. The song Hire, among others, on their most recent album What Chaos Is Imaginary (2019), can be likened lyrically and melodically, to the gentle yet intense vulnerability of Elliott Smith. Tucker’s voice and Tividad’s instrumental abilities on Hire, and vice-versa on other tracks throughout the album, generously pay homage to Smith whilst determining their own strengths as collaborative artists.
Tucker and Tividad met in 2013 and within three months released a self-titled debut EP, Girlpool (2014); since then they have released Before The World Was Big (2015), Powerplant (2017) and What Chaos Is Imaginary (2019). The creative epilogue that has been crystallized by these two in their music to date, shows an acceleration of talent through a development that is both personal and sonically driven.
KCRW house deejay, Grammy-nominated producer and champion-er of progressive new music, Chris Douridas, will open and close the show, which will be staged outside, in the courtyard of One Colorado. This is a free, all ages event.
