Slipknot is kicking off today with a new music video for “Unstained,” a new single in their 14-track album, We Are Not Your Kind. The upcoming album will be their sixth LP, a follow-up to 2014’s .5: The Gray Chapter, released on August 9th via Roadrunner Records.
Directed by the band’s percussionist M. Shawn Crahan aka “Clown,” “Unsainted” video is an attention-grabbing, aggressive and energetic album teaser, which offers a futuristic sight of the heavy metal band. The new single builds on mystery choir vocals, deep-and-down drums and agitated guitar. Led by frontman Corey Taylor, the masked metalheads have an individual scene of brutal portraits during their noisy rock performances in the video. While singing “Oh, I’ll never kill myself to save my soul/I was gone but how was I to know? I didn’t come this far to sink so low/I’m finally holding on to letting go,” the music video ends at a church spot, masked metalheads cycled together leaving a burning body in the center. The music stops abruptly at the last spooky masked-face. Check out the music video below.
Guitarist Jim Root shared, “This is most time we’ve had to write a record, and work stuff out together. One of my inspirations this time around was those artists that recorded full-length albums – not just songs. While the industry is moving toward singles, Slipknot wanted to make an album experience, front to back.” “These days the art we are making comes with the highest reward because it’s taken the most time,” added Crahan. “Almost four years to create this emotion and temperature, and the reward now is nothing short of salvation.”
Slipknot will perform “Unstained” on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on May 17th. The new single performance will be their first music act since frontman Corey Taylor’s knee surgery and the former percussionist Chris Fehn’s departure. Check out We Are Not Your Kind artwork and tracklist below.
