K. Flay has just released a new album, Solutions, out on July 12th of this year. The new single off her third studio album, is called This Baby Don’t Cry, co-written by Imagine Dragons Dan Reynolds. The two time Grammy award nominated artist also released the single Bad Vibes off the album, produced by Tommy English. Solutions follows her successful breakout album Every Where Is Some Where. As with previous albums, she masters the art of combining rock, hip hop, and pop music, while not fully settling on one or the other. There is a captivating array of percussion that intertwines with the guitar and bass to entice audiences to listen all the way through. Unexpected claps and snaps, with an undercurrent of electronic sound builds anticipation throughout.
While speaking about the meaning of Solutions, she states, “The solution to almost every problem is usually really simple. For me, it’s so basic: staying connected to the people I love, taking care of myself the way I’d want my friends to take care of themselves, and doing things I know are going to make me happy – not what social media or strangers or society tells me.”Flay did some soul searching after an extensive three year long tour, that inspired the creation of Solutions. “So many of my past records were about problems. Right now I’m in a place where I’m looking for some light. Balance is important. Life doesn’t have to be chaotic in order to be meaningful.” Reconnecting to the meaning of life after coming out of a dark place was an important part of the creative process for her.
