SPIN announced that starting this fall on October 7th, in Tulsa, Animal Collective will launch a mini tour that will conclude on October 13th in Big Sur, California. This will be in addition to the Desert Daze Festival, in which they are headliners. Others at the festival include Stereolab, My Bloody Valentine, Death Grips, Chelsea Wolfe, Stonefield, and many more. Some of the venues for the 2019 tour will be at Cains Ballroom in Oklahoma, Rialto Theater in Arizona, and Love Field in Point Reyes California.
Two of the members, Avey Tare and Panda Bear, released solo albums Buoy and Cows on Hourglass Pond. Collectively in 2018, the band released Tangerine Reef, which is a collab with art science pair Coral Morphologic, who grow and photograph coral reef. It is an audiovisual album that portrays a warning of whats to come, from an environmental perspective. In contrast to Animal Collective’s previous pop-oriented albums, Tangerine Reef has a sorrowful, forlorn spirit. This isn’t Coral Morphologic and Animal Collectives only collab, they have made appearances on and off over the last eight years.
The group has recently mentioned “Keep tuning in. It’s 2019. We’re finding our way into some new sounds”. Tickets for the fall tour are available on Animal Collective’s website this Friday.
