Kanye West joined Kid Cudi for a mini set of Kanye West originals and songs from their beloved Kids See Ghosts album. After Tame Impala just brought out A$AP Rocky for two collaborative songs, Kid Cudi stepped things up even a bit more. Right at the beginning of his set at the Sahara Tent he brought out Kanye West (and later Ty Dolla $ign) for a bevy of their songs done together over the years. First came Kanye West song “Father Stretch My Hands Pt. 1” which fans know from his album The Life of Pablo. Then, two songs from Kid Cudi and Kanye West’s landmark project together (and self-titled album) Kids See Ghosts. From that album they did raucous renditions of Kids See Ghosts songs “Reborn” and “Freeee (Ghost Town, Pt. 2).” On the latter of those two songs they were also joined by Ty Dolla $ign for his verses from the song.
Lastly, Kanye West also performed his song “Ghost Town” from his recent studio album Ye. Kanye West’s appearance is also doubly surprising considering he is billed to perform at the Coachella campgrounds doing his special Sunday Service set literally at 9 a.m. only hours from this appearance, so apparently sleep isn’t something West needs to lead a gospel choir and perform in the morning desert heat. For those keeping score, Kids See Ghost–while having technically performed together various times since their album came out, and many times collaboratively at concerts over the years prior to the project–has actually only really played one official show under that moniker. That’s right, Kids See Ghosts have only played as that project name proper at Tyler, The Creator’s Camp Flog Gnaw in 2018.
We’ve got videos of each of the songs they did together for you here below. We’ll update as we find more through the evening.
