The television network HBO announced that it will release a soundtrack for its final season of Game of Thrones. The soundtrack titled For the Throne will feature an array of big name artists including The Weeknd, The Lumineers, Ellie Goulding, and more. HBO partnered with Sony and Columbia Records to create the Television series inspired album. The soundtrack will be released on Friday, April 26th.

Currently, the album is available for pre order. There are eleven different Vinyl configurations to choose from. Nine of the cover variants will represent each house crest from the Game of Thrones series. Another color variant has a fire and ice theme, and the final configuration will be a standard.

A big name on the soundtrack is the rapper A$AP Rocky from the hip hop collective A$AP mob. A$AP Rocky rose to fame and received critical acclaim when he released his debut mixtape Live. Love. A$AP. After the mixtape was dropped, A$AP Rocky signed on with Sony. While with Sony he released two albums Long. Live. A$AP, and At. Long. Last. A$AP. Both albums worked their way up to number 1 on Billboard 200 and received positive criticism all around. Long. Live. A$AP, as a whole tends to be more aggressive and fast in comparison to At. Long. Last. A$AP which is far more relaxed and psychedelic. Some of his biggest hits include “Fucking Problems,” “L$D,” “Sundress,” and “Wild for the Night.”  Most recently, A$AP Rocky was featured in the song and music video for Blood Orange’s “Chewing Gum.”

Along with A$AP Rocky, The Weeknd will be contributing to the soundtrack as well. The pop star hasn’t released an album since Starboy released back in 2016. He did, however, release an extended play  titled My Dear Melancholy. Additionally, The Weeknd recently played Coachella as headliner last year and performed at the San Francisco music festival Outside Lands.

The Lumineers will make an appearance on the soundtrack as well. The American folk rock group has released two albums including The Lumineers in 2012, and Cleopatra in 2016. The Lumineers peaked at number 2 on the Billboard 200 and Cleopatra reached number 1. Their third album appropriately titled III is set to release on September 13th of this year. The group released their first song off the album titled “Gloria.”

Another big contributor is the rock band the National. The alternative country pop group has successfully melded together the deep drawl of country music with popular electronic beats of today. The National is also not afraid to rely heavily on live instrumentals and often infuse the sound with their synthesized beats on many of their tracks. Their most well known songs include “I Need My Girl,” “This Is The Last Time,” and “Light Years.”

So far, it looks like For the Throne will feature a variety of diverse artists across all genres. Hopefully, the album will successfully live up to one of the greatest and most iconic television shows.
