Good Ruin is a musical project of Jeremiah Meltzer, who uses a revolving cast of musicians to craft orchestrated noise as a form of therapy. The band has a new album of fuzzy, hazy rock & roll called Living As An Art Form and today we’re premiering a new song and video from the record called “Roman Holiday.”
The video is a perfect match for the minimalist composition. The song is buoyed by an upbeat bassline with a simple guitar riff with lots of harmonics and single notes bent into oblivion. Meanwhile, the video depicts a group of bizarre, shadowy figures hanging out in a cemetery.
“The overall subject matter of the song is bitter sweet,” said Meltzer, “A slight nod to the decadent ennui of 18th century aristocrats living a life of endless luxury built on death & decay. We can have whatever we want at our fingerprints today — food, sex, money, validation, you name it. Yet staring at the screen can often feel like a mirrorless pit and a holding pattern for the fragile ego. The act of escape provides momentary happiness & pleasure. Stimulate the over-stimulated.”
The song was recorded with a dear friend in our rehearsal space and his house In Los Angeles,” he added. “Half digitally and cassette tape. We look forward to sharing the rest of our first full length album in the coming weeks. The 12 songs served as a conduit for a year filled with a lot of loss & personal growth. Living is truly an art form in times of death & rebirth. Stimulus and no stimulus.”
Living As An Art Form is the band’s follow-up to their self-titled 2017 EP. It will be released in Spring 2019.
