The Lollapalooza Music Festival has announced the lineup for its upcoming Chicago 2019 festival. The 4-day event will take place August 1-4 and feature performances from some of the biggest names in music today. The headliners include rock bands Tame Impala and The Strokes and rapper Childish Gambino. Lollapalooza has spent the last two decades becoming one of the largest music events in the world, with annual festivals across the globe. Some of the more famous Lollapalooza events happen in cities such as Paris, Buenos Aires and Chicago. With an incredibly packed lineup for this summer’s Chicago event, Lollapalooza is showing music fans why it is one of the largest names when it comes to music festivals.
Experimental rock band Tame Impala became a global phenomenon in 2015, with the release of their album Currents. The group found massive mainstream success with the tracks “The Less I Know The Better” and “Let It Happen.” Since then, the group has been performing at a variety of shows around the globe; a list of performances that will soon include Lollapalooza Chicago. While the group has not released much music in the past few years, Currents has continued to keep Tame Impala in the spotlight.
Childish Gambino has been one of the largest names in hip-hop and R&B the past couple of years, with his song “This Is America” winning four Grammy awards last month. The track became the first rap song to ever win record of the year, along with picking up awards for best music video and rap/sung performance. Gambino has a big year lined up for 2019 as well, with the rapper teasing a release of new music in 2018 that still has yet to come. Hopefully the album will be ready before August, and fans going to Lollapalooza will be able to hear his newest music.
The Strokes are another group that will be headlining Lollapalooza Chicago. The Strokes, who first broke onto the music scene in 2001, are one of the most well known acts of the turn of the millenium. Their debut album, Is This It, spawned a few massively successful songs, including “Someday” and “Last Nite.” Since then, the band has released four more full studio albums; most recently putting out Comedown Machine in 2013. Despite not releasing a new album in over half a decade, The Strokes have continued to put on amazing live performances for fans. Their set at Lollapalooza Chicago is sure to be one of the highlights of the festival. The full festival flyer detailing all of the performers for Lollapalooza can be found below.
