Billie Eilish Pens an Ode of Unrequited Love in New Song “wish you were gay”

Pop sensation Billie Eilish returns with a new single “wish you were gay” that is from her forthcoming debut album, WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO? that is due for a March 29 release. This single follows Eilish’s release of “bury a friend,” which was accompanied by a thrilling music video directed by Michael Chaves.

“wish you were gay” is essentially an ode to unrequited love, as Eilish conveys her feelings about her unreciprocated love through the track’s lyrics. The title and lyrics may be misleadingly offensive, but they are simply Eilish’s way of expressing her heartbreak and asking for an explanation, with lines like “I wish I didn’t wanna stay, I just kinda wish you were gay” and “Is there a reason we’re not through?” Eilish also touches on the severity of heartbreak, while likening heartbreak to a recovery program when she sings, “Is there a 12 step just for you?”

At just 17 years of age, the Los Angeles singer-songwriter rose to prominence over the last few years with massive singles including “Ocean Eyes and “when the party’s over”, which have amassed millions of online streams separately. With the release of her debut album, Eilish has a big 2019 ahead of her, as she will begin her massive world tour on March 5 at the O2 Sheperd’s Bush Empire in London, United Kingdom. Also included in her tour is an appearance at Lollapalooza’s Berlin edition this year.
