Stereogum Presents Range Life SXSW 2019 Day Parties

Music website Stereogum is returning to Austin and will host a two-day party named Steroeogum Range Life ’19 for SXSW at Cheer Up Charlies.  Steroeogum will have two stages located in and outside the venue and have bands playing simultaneously.  Many of the bands that Stereogum have booked to play at Range Life have been featured on their website under their Band To Watch column.  You can click here to familiar yourself with every band that is scheduled to play at Cheer Up Charlies.

A few artists slated on Range Life’s bill are; Control Top, Charly Bliss, THYLA and Gurr.

Control Top releases their debut album, Covert Contracts on April 5th  with only one song last year, “Type A,” but it was so good that it landed on Stereogum’s Best New Bands of 2018.  Even though Control Top released only one song last year, &Type A,& it was so good that Stereogum  put them on their list of 40 Best New Bands of 2018.  If that’s the casse after one song I wonder how many list they’ll be put on when their debut album, Covert Contracts, releases on April 5th. If you want to get a taste of Covert Contracts, check out their first single off the album, “Chain Reaction.”

Charly Bliss if you look them up are described as a pop band but listening to their song, “Percolator,” the only pop sound that can be heard is the perky vocals from lead singer Eva Hendricks. Other than her voice, Charly Bliss has enough power to sound more like Jimmy Eat World from  the early 2000’s than any pop singers today. Their new album, Young Enough will be released on May 10th but while you wait check out their new single, “Capacity.”

England’s punk band THLYA will look to continue their success from last year, as they were named NME’s 100 Essential Acts for 2018.  Gaining an audience from continuous plays from BBC Radio 1, BBC 6 Music and Radio X and also getting recgnozized from multiple plublications including Stereogum, THYLA finished 2018 strong with their first headline show.in London.  THLYA is sure to leave their mark in Austin and the crowd who catches them at their first SXSW.

Rock duo Gurr who are booked to kick off Stereogum’s Range Life will also set the bar for the rest of the bands because if there’s was one band to kick off Stereogum’s showcase then Gurr had to be their obvious choice.  Playing out sold out shows and festivals across the world, Stereogum editor-in-chief Scott Lapatine and BBC Radio1 host Huw Stephens picked Gurr in 2017 to record a BBC Radio1 session.  It was a relatively quiet 2018 for Gurr who only released 3 songs but they started 2019 right off the bat with their new song, “She Says.” Gurr will defintely set the mood for Stereogum’s Range Life 2019.
