UNI, the glam rock band with a psychedelic style, have recently released a new music video for their queer anthem, “American Fag”. The video features the trio getting glitzy in outlandish outfits that are fitting of the themes explored within the song itself.
Speaking on the track, UNI expressed that it was produced in honor of the legalization of gay marriage in America, and the “opinion and ideology” that the legislation stands for. The title of the track reflects the reclamation of the slur by queer individuals in society. “American Fag” is a celebration of the previously outcasted, who now have the right to “party in the margins.”
UNI’s progressive sound is unmistakable in the track, which mixes punk with the psychedelic. Topped off by the haunting vocals of Jack James, “American Fag” is a true representation of the band’s music, which unique mixes different genres. And it’s music video pushes the boundaries even more. The trio are seen to don a variety of edgy, gender-bending outfits and costumes as they parade through several spots in New York City.
UNI is comprised on Jack James, David Strange, and Charlotte Kemp Muhl. Cool enough, Strange was the former guitar for Courtney Love’s band, while Muhl, who is also a model and director, also performs with Sean Lennon in their band The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger.
