The Onion, a satire news publication has been bringing news articles to the masses since 1756 when it was a print newspaper. Now exclusively online, the number it reaches daily is astronomical covering local, national, internation and breaking news. Their sister publication The A.V. Club is an entertainment website covering everything in entertainment; film, tv, music, games and many more with feature interviews, reviews and other related articles that are entertainment based. Together they entertain the world on a daily basis with their articles whether they may be satire or not. For the past several years they have come to Austin during SXSW to entertain attendees with a showcase dubbed, Just Another Manic Monday and they have partnered again for 2019.
Just Another Manic Monday takes over The Mohawk on Monday evening March 11th with a dozen bands headlined by Deerhunter. Along with Deerhunter, singer-songwriter Madeline Kenney hits the stage with her “tawng-hazy dream pop” (based on her Facebook, and it’s a perfect description to her song Perfect Shapes), Austin’s own Sweet Spirit, a veteran of SX who back 4 years ago were dubbed Austin’s “next great rock band” from multiple publications including Esquire and L.A. Times, indie rock band Ratboys, who’s aim is to “write songs that tell stories and honor the intamacy of memory.” and many more bands ready to hit the stage of The Mohawk. The Mohawk is a great indoor/outdoor venue that never fails to entertain guests with musical acts that come their way. This year with Deerhunter, the crowd is guaranteed to start forming early and quickly.
