Weezer Shares Music Video for Their Cover Of A-Ha’s “Take On Me”

Weezer released a music video for their version of a-ha’s hit “Take On Me” from their most recent album, Weezer (The Teal Album). Viewers are taken back to the 1980s and into the life of a seemingly young Rivers Cuomo, lead singer of Weezer. Finn Wolfhard of Stranger Things stars as the young Cuomo amongst the up-and-coming band Calpurnia. After sharing a jam session, Cuomo is seen deciding on the perfect name for the band, Weezer.

This cover of “Take On Me” is one of many on Weezer (The Teal Album). Riddled with ‘80s and ‘90s hits like “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” and “Africa,” this album broke the internet at its release. It hit over a hundred million streams globally while reaching number one at iTunes and on both Billboard’s Top Rock Albums and Alternative Albums charts. Additionally, it reached number five on the Billboard 200 which is the group’s tenth top ten on the chart.

Weezer (The Teal Album) came as a surprise to fans, preceding their new album, Weezer (The Black Album) which is comprised of original Weezer content and is to be release on March 1. Songs on Weezer (The Black Album) were written on piano by Cuomo for the first time in Weezer history. It was also produced by TV on The Radio’s Dave Sitek, another first for Weezer. Fans can expect some of the greatest song in the entire repertoire of Weezer’s content on this album. This album is the next big step for the band in the winning streak of high praised albums since 2014. The most current song off the album, “Can’t Knock The Hustle,” recently became the band’s sixteenth Top Ten single at Alternative Radio.

Weezer will embark with the Pixies on their highly anticipated North American tour in two weeks, hitting many arenas throughout the country. The tour includes a show in New York at Madison Square Garden with a special appearance of TV On The Radio. They are also set to play Coachella on the Main Stage amongst artists such as Ariana Grande and Tame Impala short after. They are then setting out to play a number of shows and festivals in Europe.
