The Recording Academy has announced the first batch of artists scheduled to perform on the most prestigious music awards show, Pitchfork reports. Performers will include Camila Cabello, Cardi B, Dan + Shay, Post Malone, Shawn Mendes, Janelle Monáe and Kacey Musgraves taking the stage on Sunday, February 10th. All of the performers are up for Grammys this year, some of them being in the main categories.
Camila Cabello will be making her debut to the Grammy stage, being nominated for two awards: best pop solo performance and best pop vocal album for her self-titled debut album Camila. NYC rapper Cardi B has been dominating the music industry in the past year and it’s not going unacknowledged, racking up five nominations, including record of the year, album of the year and best rap album. Aside from taking these awards or not, Cardi B has already become the first female rapper to obtain two #1’s on Billboard’s Hot 100.
Other performers that are nominated or album of the year alongside Cardi B include Post Malone for beerbongs & bentleys, Janelle Monáe for Dirty Computer and Kacey Musgraves for her country-pop album Golden Hour. Collectively, they are only four out of the eight artists nominated in this category, all earning their respective spot.
Janelle Monáe has been riding on the success of her critically-acclaimed album Dirty Computer, already starting her tour earlier last year. In response to her nomination for album of the year, she told Norah O’Donnell on CBS This Morning, “Being a young, black, queer woman in America, there was something I had to say… a group of people I wanted to celebrate, and I’m happy to be representing them. I hope they feel seen, I hope they feel heard. I hope they feel loved and I hope they feel celebrated.”
Alicia Keys will also be hosting the 61st Annual Grammy Awards at Los Angeles’ STAPLES Center. Although she won’t be able to promote her own music, the 15-time Grammy award winning singer is grateful to host and share the stage with her musical peers. In statement, she said, “I’m so excited to be the master of ceremonies on the biggest night in music and celebrate the creativity, power and magic. I’m especially excited for all the incredible women nominated this year.”
The Grammy Awards will premiere on February 10th at 8:00pm EST on CBS.
