Flight of the Conchords Release New Song “Father and Son” From Their HBO Special “Live in London”

The musical comedy duo Flight of the Conchords have just released their song “Father and Son” and it’s worth the listen. The new release actually comes from an HBO live concert special that premiered in October called Live in London. The one-hour TV special was taped at the Eventim Apollo and featured the duo performing songs from their sold-out UK and Ireland edition of “Flight of the Conchords Sing FLight of the Conchords Tour.”

Some fans may have heard the song earlier on when the duo also performed the song on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert back in September. This was used a promotional song for audiences to tune in for the special.

Members Jemaine Clement and Bret McKenzie had returned to the HBO television platform nearly ten years after the initial launch of their HBO series “Flight of the Conchords.” The Emmy-nominated series followed fictionalized versions of the duo living in New York City for two seasons until the show got canceled in early 2009. After that, two found success in participating in individual endeavors. Clement found success in film with film credits in“Men in Black 3,” “What We Do in the Shadows” and the “Rio” movies. McKenzie ended up being a music supervisor for “The Muppets,” which he won Academy Awards for Best Original Song for “Man or Muppet” and “Muppets Most Wanted.”

It’s not certain if the duo will go on to creating and releasing more original content just yet. But for now, you can listen to the new song below, and on streaming platforms like AppleMusic and Spotify.

Michael Izquierdo: I'm a third-year student at The New School studying Journalism & Design in order to tell stories that are often misrepresented or unreported on. I want to take my writing and report on stories within the LGBTQ+ and Latinx community. In terms of music, play me a smooth jazz tune, an upbeat pop song, or an unheard indie artist and I'm sure I'll become infatuated by the music. I am always here to share someone else's story, to uplift a voice in any community.
