Sumac Announces January 2019 U.S West Coast Tour Dates

Sumac is a metal band featuring Aaron Turner, Brian Cook and Nick Yacyshyn who have a unique and extremely strong sound. Heavy bass, drums and vocals drive the listener on an adventure they won’t forget. The new album, Love In Shadow is a brutalizing dive into love and all its raw emotions. SUMAC will be embarking on a West Coast tour throughout the month of January 2019, joined by Divide & Dissolve and Tashi Dorji.

Early on, Turner and Yacyshyn jammed together and clicked, and Yacyshyn commented that the music they were working on was, “a pretty dense, heavy experience and kind of out there, I’d say. I’ve never been in a band that sounds like this.”

Even though both members were a part of other projects at the time, Turner announced that Sumac would attempt to be a full-time band that would continue to write, record and tour, instead of being just a side band. After only playing together twice prior, Sumac performed their first show on stage in December 2014 opening for Deafheaven in Vancouver, British Columbia.

SUMAC are always searching for new approaches and challenges. Turner’s nimble songwriting combusted with the road-honed intuition and technical prowess of his bandmates results in a sound that is at once complex and primal. Earlier this year, the trio released the collaborative album American Dollar BillKeep Facing Sideways, You’re Too Hideous To Look At Face On with lauded Japanese artist Keiji Haino.

Kelly Tucker: Originally from Los Angeles, I grew up listening to all types of music. My first concert was Aerosmith with Skid Row, then moved on to concerts with Metallica, Lollapalooza, Guns N’ Roses, Soundgarden and more. One of my favorite shows of all time was when I was in college and someone took me to see the Allman Brothers play. I also scalped a ticket to see Pearl Jam and the amazing Eddie Vedder sing his heart out. My professional career started in 2000 at Nielsen Business Media where I was an assistant in a sales department and later got promoted to advertising account executive. When the recession hit in 2008 and the magazine was sold, I took a job at a call center and later got promoted to assistant to the CEO and COO of a global company. In 2017, I took a position at a pharmaceutical agency, and now currently responsible for coordinating meeting logistics for physicians and pharma reps throughout the United States. In my spare time, I work at Peace4Kids a non-profit in South Los Angeles and write screenplays in hopes to make a breakthrough.
