Bad Religion, who is set to perform at the upcoming Surf City Blitz, releases new, politically charged song titled “The Profane Rights Of Man.” According to the Rolling Stone, the songs purpose was to observe the human rights crisis that is currently happening in America. “The Profane Rights Of Man” consists of the group’s trademark punk riffs as the band’s frontman, Greg Graffin, calls out the “criminal” elite. The group, which is known for having topics such as religion and politics in their songs, use drum shifts and guitar solos to create tension throughout the track. Frontman Graffin stated “Bad Religion’s belief in a secular basis for the protection of human rights for all people.” The strong political message can be seen in the line “And so it turns, the bourgeoisie/ The bastard child of democracy/ Morphs into aristocracy.” The song can be listened to below.
“The Profane Rights of Man” comes months after their last single “The Kids Are Alt-Right.” Although their last album was True North, which was originally released back in 2013 as their 16th studio album, the band has remained busy in the studio as well as with upcoming performances, including Riot Fest.
Bad Religion originally formed back in 1980 by Greg Graffin, Jay Bentley, Jay Ziskrout and Brett Gurewitz. Throughout the years, the band went through many changes in members, but still have Graffin, Gurewitz and Bentley. Along with hose original three, Brian Baker, Mike Dimkich and Jamie Miller joined the group. The first album released by the group was titled How Could Hell Be Any Worse? And was released in 1982. They have since released 16 studio albums, with their most recent being True North.
