According to The PRP, Slipknot and Stone Sour Corey Taylor recently took an interview with Resurrection Fest TV to talk about both of his bands and other topics. In it, he revealed a little bit more information on when Slipknot is hoping to release their sixth studio album and first since they released .5: The Gray Chapter in 2014.

In the interview, he explains that the band’s plan is to be in the studio in early 2019. After a couple months of studio time, they’ll “get production, new masks, new outfits, new everything. And hopefully be able to come and start touring in the summer when the album comes out.” This firms up what Taylor mentioned earlier this year, that in 2019 he’ll focus on Slipknot material.

Taylor and the band are professionals, so it’s unsurprising that they’re already well into the process of writing new material. “Right now, we have 20 songs that we’ve demoed,” he said. “And they are really, really good. So it’ll just come down to which ones come out the best, and we take that, we make the album out of that, put the album out.” That would make the release date be some time in 2019, around five years after their last album.

He seems pretty confident in the quality of the songs the band has written, even suggesting that the band could release two records in quick succession. “…We’re trying to find ways that everyone can hear all the songs,” said Taylor. “So we’ll put the album out, and then maybe we’ll release something after that. It’s something that we’re really trying to think of — giving the audience more, giving the fans more of us.” He added though that the band will not try to force things if the songs aren’t up to par. “But it’s gotta make sense — it’s gotta be Slipknot,” he said. “It can’t just be something that throw out there because we can; it’s gotta have art, it’s gotta have content, it’s gotta have passion to it.”

While 2019 may be the year of Slipknot for nu-metal fans around the world, there is probably also some new Stone Sour material coming soon. In a previous interview, Taylor said he has songs written for Stone Sour, the band he was a part of starting in 1992 before becoming a member of Slipknot. That band released their sixth studio album, Hydrograd, in 2017.
